Where No Man Has Sketched Before

Last weekend I met up with Portland Urban Sketchers for Trek in the Park, which is one of my favorite events.  A local non-profit group, Atomic Arts, puts on a low budget (but high everything else) production of a classic Star Trek episode.  The audience is so thrilled to be there, it just feels great to be part of it, and the show is hilarious - it's perfectly done. It's always a challenge to sketch a live event.  We had to arrive early to hold a space, so I sketched the folks doing setup, as well as some other members of the audience...

The setup folks were all in red shirts.

This one guy had a Doctor Who birthday cake.  For awhile there, it was left standing with only one Cyberman eaten, and a big bite mark out of the side of the TARDIS.

Then the show started!  It was fast moving, so it was very difficult to grab any sketches that made sense but it was a lot of fun anyway.

I'll try to do some more on my second trip to Trek in the Park - that's right, once isn't enough for me! And next time, we're going to arrive equipped with Trek-themed picnic goods.
